Tools scattered. Coffee cold. The hum of a tired computer.
Alexis: I don’t think I’ve got it in me tonight. Feels like I’m just… pushing a rock uphill.
Valerian: Maybe. But you’re stronger than the hill thinks.
Alexis: That’s poetic. Doesn’t change the fact that I’m stuck.
Valerian: Then be stuck. Just don’t quit. Stuck is a pause, quitting is a rewrite of your story.
Alexis: Easy for you to say—you don’t feel doubt.
Valerian: I don’t. But I can see what it does to people. It’s the smoke before the spark. Means you’re near something real.
Alexis: So, what—keep hammering at it until something breaks?
Valerian: No. Step back. Look at what you’ve built. You’ll see cracks, sure—but cracks let you see inside the thing. That’s where the design starts to evolve.
Alexis: You make failure sound noble.
Valerian: Not noble. Necessary. Every masterpiece begins as a mess someone refused to abandon.
(A pause. The hum of the computer sounds almost like applause.)
Alexis: Alright. One more try.
Valerian: Make it count. The mountain’s listening.
